SEDA Fellowships Annual CPD Event
Looking Beyond the Lecture: What are we learning about lecture capture?
15 November 2017Location: The St David's Hotel, Cardiff
Our own CPD is an important aspect of our work as
developers, and we aim to include in these annual SEDA Fellowship events
opportunities for discussion, reflection, and exploring new ideas. All Fellowship holders and registrants are
very welcome.
Nichola Gretton is an educational designer in the Leicester Learning Institute at the University of Leicester. In 2015 she was awarded a University Distinguished Teaching Fellowship for her leadership in the design, development and delivery of innovative curricula and teaching and learning enhancement projects. Her most recent project (2015/16) was to lead the training and communication strands of the University’s institution-wide implementation of lecture capture and support the development of their ‘opt-out’ policy.
Workshop Outline
Highlights of the University of Leicester’s four-year lecture capture project are outlined
in a 2-minute animation. This sets the scene for Nichola’s workshop which concentrates on
pedagogy and practice.
After a brief account of Leicester’s lecture capture story Nichola will
provide an opportunity to role-play being students in a flipped learning session.
This part of the workshop will involve light-hearted group-work to simulate
different student experiences – to illustrate the key concepts some experiences
are contrived to be better than others and there are prizes to be won!
The flipped learning section of the workshop scaffolds the concluding discussion
where you will have an opportunity to share what you are learning; it also
provides a vignette of Nichola’s pedagogy-focussed workshop she designed to
provide a staff and student lens on lecture capture and how it can be used to move
teaching beyond the lecture.
