SEDA’s Professional Development Framework provides recognition for higher and further education institutions and professional development organisations, accreditation for their professional development programmes and recognition for the individuals who complete those programmes. It supports three functions:

  • Learning, teaching and assessment
  • Leadership and management
  • Researcher development

The awards framework supports and recognises the different professional development needs of staff as their careers develop. It uses a range of named awards to accredit different types of professional development.

All named awards share a common set of values and core development outcomes and each named award has its own set of specialist outcomes.

Appropriate SEDA-PDF awards have been aligned with their relevant UK professional development frameworks: UKPSF, RDF and CMALT

Why engage with SEDA-PDF?

  • For your institution: internationally recognised accreditation, with support for its professional development activity and those who carry it out
  • For staff in your institution: the opportunity to gain internationally recognised certification for their professional development activity
  • Provides a framework for coherent linkage between your institution’s learning and teaching strategy and institutional priorities
  • Gains you access to an organisation with a long-standing and established reputation for leadership and support of professional development activity
  • Enables an institution to develop a CPD scheme from scratch, or to add relevant awards to existing CPD activities to form a larger CPD framework or scheme
  • Awards are ‘level-free’ so you can use them flexibly to have both credit-bearing and non credit-bearing programmes accredited.
